Stavros Xarchakos

Stavros Xarchakos is a legendary Greek composer and conductor whose remarkable career spans more than six decades. Widely regarded as one of Greece’s most influential musical figures, renowned for his ability to blend traditional Greek folk elements with lush orchestral textures.

His compositions reflect a masterful blend of classical, folk, and traditional Greek music, creating a unique and timeless sound. He has composed music for over 42 albums, 21 films, and 15 television productions, as well as for ancient tragedies, dramas, and international ballets, showcasing his versatility and artistic depth.

Among his most iconic works is the soundtrack for the film Rebetiko by K. Ferris (1983), a cinematic and musical masterpiece that sparked a revival of this musical genre. In 1989, he shared the stage with fellow legends Manos Hadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis at the Athens Olympic Stadium, a moment widely regarded as one of the most iconic in modern Greek music. He has also composed "Zeibekiko of Zeus" for the opening ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
